Interview with Hans Van Meer

For those of you who are interested, we have just published an interview with Hans Van Meer at AoB website.

It is a wonderful story of Hans' involvement with bonsai, and good reading, thanks to his talent not only for bonsai, but also for story-telling.

I always liked Hans' work, but now that I have read his story, I gained a higher admiration for him.

Here is the link to the interview:

I do wholeheartedly agree...Mr. Hans ask that his interview be corrected for 'proper english' before publishing, since English was not his primary language and he only recently began to even attempt to write in English...When I accepted the task of editing this I began by trying to 'do it' according to the book, but I soon discovered by doing this the wonderful 'story-telling' ability that Mr. Hans has developed through the years was partly lost...I started a second time from the beginning attempting to better maintain some of the 'colloquialisms' that is characteristic of his writing...Some was still lost, but the knowledge of bonsai art, craft, and European bonsai history, that he shares in this interview is very much intact...This is a great read, thought provoking, and educational as well...

In my personal opinion, this is one of the two best interviews now posted at AoB…

Regards
Behr

True, i quite enjoy it. he is a typical example that excitment can reduce the time to learn certain aspects of the art.

I wish I had access to Yamadori from here.
