I think the resistance is in the calling of it bonsai. We have a well established model of what bonsai is.

maybe a cool translation of the word, like penjing, ho non bo, or a made up word like mambonsai ,mallsai, potentsai, boneseye

pup you are another one i have alot of respect for, but the ancient literatis and artisans of china who started penjin would be horrified at us suggesting that these are even remotely related.

However, with this one, ”…call it plant art if you like but not bonsai…”, I disagree.

Maybe we can call it "pre-Penjing"?

I am not a purist...do it this way, because it's always been done that way. On the flip side, I do have respect for our "roots"...Japan...China...Thai...whatever...

its all good pat and not for one minute do i doubt uncle thong's passion and ability. nor am i a purist but i do greatly believe in the discipline.

You will note Antonio I said CRUDEST form. There are a lot of pictures posted here that, are Penjing, but people insist on calling them Bonsai.
