bonsaiTALK slow or inaccessible?
[b:c40602d8f6]UPDATE October 20, 2001[/b:c40602d8f6]
I believe the problem outlined in the message below has been addressed. *I am just leaving it here for reference. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - You may have noticed some periods of service outage or slow forum operation recently. *This is because our ISP, Valueweb.com is instituting some temporary control measures to limit hacker and virus activity. *Hopefully these issues will be addressed in the near future, but currently there is no specific ETA on a solution. [b:c40602d8f6]This has occurred very infrequently, but if you find yourself unable to connect to bonsaiTALK, please try again in approximately 30 minutes. *If you are in the process of posting or modifying a message, you can leave the browser window open, click the BACK arrow on your browser and try to resubmit your message at that point.[/b:c40602d8f6] Here is the statement I received recently: [size=1:c40602d8f6] If you are currently experiencing problems accessing your Web site, but are able log in via FTP and also receive your e-mail, this is possibly due to anti-virus measures currently being instituted on ValueWeb’s network. As you may have read on-line or in your local newspaper, virus threats have increased in the past couple days and have been seriously affecting business on the Web. Although our servers are not vulnerable to the viruses currently being spread, the increase in site traffic associated with these types of viruses can seriously impact the performance of your Web site (This is commonly referred to as a Denial Of Service or DOS attack). In order to minimize the impact for all of our customers, ValueWeb has instituted measures to limit this excess traffic to your Web site. This new procedure will place a 30-minute block on any machine infected with the NIMDA worm while it is attempting to infect our servers. As a result, if your computer is infected and you attempt to view a Web page while the NIMDA worm is attempting to access the same server, you will be unable to view your site. Although this block will clear after 30 minutes, this does not mean that you are no longer infected; it just means the worm has moved on. If you’d like to have your computer checked for the virus, visit this site: https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 If your computer is infected by the NIMDA worm, it’s important that you take the appropriate measures. To learn more about the NIMDA worm and how to protect your computer, you can visit http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2001-26.html. [b :c40602d8f6]
