ATM Submissions Needed !
Hello All,
After an initial "burst" of entries, I have run out of Trees for Walter to Critique in the "Ask the Master" forum here at bonsaiTALK. This is a valuable Teaching and Refinement tool and I can not believe we CAN NOT FIND Trees of a certain Quality to present into the ATM. Perhaps, there are those who will never show their trees. I know to many myself. But why not present them here? With over 6000 members on bT, of which I would easily guess say 10% are always active - that gives us at least 600 members who just need to have 1 decent tree in their collection to photograph and present. This, at a release rate of say 2 per week, would give us over 5 years supply !!! Maybe there are "Masterpieces" hidden away in far flung corners of the world, never normally seen in public. Even if you think they need NO improvement, it would be nice to share the pleasure of seeing them. Others can then see what we should be aiming for. Walters' keen eye for design, may just tip your thoughts in another direction, not only with the submitted trees, but others you have in your collection. He has a great knack of presenting Virtuals of alternatives that are possible with the material as well as suggesting possible pots or planting positions to add another dimension to the display. Beginners, Intermediates and Masters alike, can all learn from this great feature of bT, which is certainly NOT being used to its potential. So come on everyone, now is the time to get the Digital Camera out, set up a simple backdrop and present a nice picture for ALL to see. Best Regards, Ian. All due respect, Ian, but after the discussion about the poor quality of trees, photos, lighting, angles and etc., I was thoroughly warned from posting any.

Any posts made in new threads in the ATM section will not appear right away to the general public, so you needn't be too concerned.. Ian will have the opportunity to look them over before they become visible. In the event they're not quite acceptable - there will be the opportunity to make suggestions concerning any required correction directly to the person who submitted them without any "public spanking"
Regards, Matt

Malhomme,
Your Avatar photograph would be fine as a ATM ! All, The standards are set purely as a guideline to aim for . . . To show willing, I started off the "New Version" myself with some fairly average material and certainly less than average photography. See the post here. . . But look at how much I learnt from that single post. We are keen Bonsai enthusiasts and not all proficient photographers, but we must give Walter every opportunity of being able to see the branch structure and style of the tree. Only then, can he give an accurate assessment. With a clear plain background, he is quickly able to undertake "photoshop" virtuals. If the tree is taken from the wrong height, angle etc... it is very difficult to say place the arrangement in another pot or planting angle. So, please, do not be concerned that we are looking for standards above your abilities. I am here to help, and I will certainly always offer help in a PM should any submission be not quite upto standards. I'm not into naming and shaming in the public domain. Lets start seeing what you think are some of your better trees, with a clear photograph based on the quidelines. WE WILL ALL GAIN Best wishes, Ian. |

All,
Just to let you know I am away on annual holiday from this weekend, so any ATM submissions will not be posted till towards the end of August. During this time, I hope some of you are getting the Cameras out, so I come back to a large collection to wade through. But then - to come back to one would be nice ! Where are they ?Regards, Ian. |
