what species of maple is this?
I have 2 maples like this and don’t really know what the species is.
Can anyone tell me exactly what kind it is? All I know is that they grow wild here in south central Louisiana. The maple looks so bad because I partially defoliated it yesterday. It will probably be the last time before I start working on the roots. |

Thank you Bubba for the reply.
Maybe so. I've never heard anyone call them Sugar Maples, Just Maples.

Not really sure here, but it does not seem like the right leaf type for a sugar maple (Acer saccharum), looks more like a Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus).
Though going purely by leaftype can be rather misleading when dealing with maples. Just to compare I've inlcuded two images. The left one is a sugar maple, the right one is a Sycamore maple. Stefan

I will try to take some pictures of a full grown tree and post it here, and maybe the bark too. Thanks for all the help. ![]()
