I'd have to go with air layering just above the reverse taper. This tree seems too tall by about 100% to me. If you let the branches grow out, you may or may not be able to fill in that area, but then what do you have? A tall, thick trunk with no taper.
This trunk has a lot of character which will become spectacular as two shorter trees. As to the top of the tree, I would remove the heavy chunk on the left, thin it considerably. It is getting far too strong and needs to be restrained. |

Hi All
Thanks for reply's and suggestions, I have now traded this tree on to someone who can do what is needed to get to where it should be. I feel i dont have enough experience yet to do the work needed. Many Thanks Gary |
