potbound

hi

I live in the UK and have an indoor serissia which is pot bound. I know i need to repot it but i cant do that until the spring. I have it placed on a small tray filled with wet fine git. Small white roots are now coming out of the drainage holes into the git. Should i leave it until spring and forget about the roots or cut them off or repot now anyway?

Thanks

Graeme...

Re: potbound

Hi Graeme,

There is potbound and there is POTBOUND. *You can usually pop the tree out of the pot and check out the roots to see which is the case. *Some adventurous roots trying to escape the pot is not usually a problem. *You can clip them away to keep the drainage holes clear and wait for dormancy.

You know your plant is rootbound when:[*]the soil is not draining well and you have difficulty keeping the soil evenly watered[*]the plant is suffering in some way[*]when you examine the roots you see several spirals of roots encircling the container or notice the plant edging up out of the pot like a cobra ready to strike

Then you need to take some emergency action. *You can find some more information here, and the details on emergency repotting are in the second section.

Hello GraemeK

Welcome to the forum!

For some reason the forum resizes your user icon if it is a JPEG that is not EXACTLY 150 wide by 200 tall. You can either resize it yourself to this aspect ratio or pad it out with a frame, or just live with it.

It doesn't mess with GIFs at all.

Regards,

Matt
