Posting A Picture

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I didn't know where else to ask! I have digital pictures of my trees that I would like others to see so that they may give advice on styling etc. I'm not totally computer illiterate, but I have had little experience posting pictures. Currently the pictures are around 600kb each, well over the maximum allowed on this forum. How do I resize them and yet keep them large enough for someone to discern what is in the picture?

Thanks a lot folks!

You have to get them into an image editing program (I use Photoshop, but there are many alternatives.).

Crop away what you don't need, reduce to 72 pixels/inch (all you need on the web), and then save (under another name, unless you have no other use for your original image) as JPG.

In photoshop, you can change image size as well, and select quality of image. these are both key to reducing file size.

k....

Ok, since I don't own an image editing program, I had to download one from download.com. Unfortunately, I cant do much with programs that aren't free. I can now post the picture, but I dont know how / can't make it bigger by putting 72 pixels/inch like you said. Pay no mind to the crappiness of the tree, I only care about the size!

Don't worry about the pixel-per-inch count. The only thing that matters is the linear diminsions (how many pixels there are in each dimension) and the file size.

So you can post images up to 600 pixels wide or so. Try the Test forum if you want to play around.

Regards,

Matt
