Picea Identification Please

Howdy Folks,

Bought this tree about two years ago, unknown Picea form, can anyone help to identify it from the one and only pic that I have.

It is still in the bonsai nursery where I bought it, waiting for me to get lucky and find me a place with a garden.

Regards,
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

Itīs somekind of Tsuga or Hemlock fir, specific species I donīt know.
Itīs a very slow grower, isnīt oft used for bonsai for all I know.

Regards, Wessel

Hard to tell from the picture but I believe it is probably Picea abies 'Nidiformis' also called a "bird's nest spruce"... They are slow growers and grow in random whirling patterns unlike most spruce... Don't take that to the bank though...

Looks like a cultivar of Norway Spruce. Picea Abies forma pendula--Weeping Spruce. It most definately is not Birds Nest, the growth is too long and open and not stiff enough and the needles are too long.
