My japanese box is losing its leaves...

HI doc,

i have a japanese box and i have had it for about 8 months and i was told it was 6 yrs old when i bought it.

I bought it during our late australian summer from a reputable bonsia dealer in perth and it was in excellent condition.

it was going very well for the first three months and then as it got to july (winter for perth) I noticed the leaves on one side of the plant starting to become yellow and over a very short time (maybe 3-4wks) one half of the plant had lost most of its leaves. at first they shrivelled up and falling off but now they are going yellow and falling off.

During the summer and autumn i was watering it every morning with a mist spray until the water was running out the bottom of the pot. now i am only giving it a good soak every day. soil looks moist.

Living in Perth Australia the sun is quite harsh so i have it under the patio where it was getting the afternoon sun from the west. sincewinter (july) i have placed it in a position where it can get the morning and afternoon sun without getting rained on.

The soil smells earthy but nothing unusual. Unfortunately I have no idea when it was repotted last and there doesnt seem to be any sign of insect or pest infestation.

I initially thought it was just coming to winter and started to get some yellowing of the leaves , which i have heard is common in japanese box but now i feel the plant has become stressed by the cold somehow. it doesnt seem to be getting better and has been like in the photos for a month now.

I have been told to leave it in full sun and hope for the best...any thoughts from you are more than welcome.

Luke from Perth.
