Juniper Allowed Indoors!?
I visited the store where I bought my bonsai, and told him about my Bonsai troubles. The man there said that it wasn't necessary for me to keep it in the room with the window wide open and so cold, or even outside in the winter. He said it probably had a lot to do with the problems right now, because it should have more humidity.
This goes against everything I have read! Keep in mind this isn't a mall or anything, it is a store that has been around for a while, specializing in Bonsais and selling some orchids, those sand gardens, and more. Is this true? Because I would love to be able to keep my juniper in my room (which is somewhat cooler than room temp.) ![]() |

Re: Juniper Allowed Indoors!?
Why would it be *less* humid indoors
Is it raining?

Re: Juniper Allowed Indoors!?
I meant that the man said that inside would be better because it would be more humid, which would make sense because it is the winter and very dry outside.
But again, this goes against everything I have heard ![]() |

Re: Juniper Allowed Indoors!?
I doubt that that's true unless you live in the desert. Using a heating system in the winter will bring the humidity way down in the house, 10-20 % humidity is about the norm. You can try to grow a juniper in a warm stuffy house but 99 out of a 100 won't make it. Read through the archives of this site and you'll find many stories about dry, crispy junipers that have been grown inside.

Re: Juniper Allowed Indoors!?
Wow, it is snowing like mad right now... and it is almost April!
The weather has been VERY erratic lately. It has been warm and the ground thawed out a few times since winter, followed by extreme cold. So basically my bonsai has been going through some bad weather. Also, the winter was very dry with no moisture in the air, and I obviously couldn't spray it or it would freeze. It should be getting warm, but again, sometimes it is very dry while others it is very humid. If I put my bonsai in my room under a fluorescent light, spray it a few times a day, and sit it on a tray of water with rocks in it, shouldn't that be enough to keep it going well? |
