Indoor/outdoor
I have been told that juniper trees make good indoor bonsai trees. However, in my last post on this board I was told that my juniper needs to go outside. Whats the case? It is a blue star juniper and I live in NY does that make the difference?
Also.. I am a college student that lives in an appartment where there is not a sutibale place to put the tree outdoors.... any indoor suggestions would be appreciated..and who knows, my parents might be getting an outdoor bonsai real soon....Could this be considered bonsai neglect ?Jeff... |

Re: Indoor/outdoor
One idea to keep in mind is whether the person giving you the advice has anything to benefit from your acceptance of it.
In my experience, juniper do not make good indoor bonsai. Their light requirement is very high. Keeping a juniper indoors is a good way to kill it in about a month. If the person giving you this advice is selling bonsai, well... Regards, Matt

Re: Indoor/outdoor
Everything I have read agrees with the above advice...junipers don't make it inside.
Most people advise trying a ficus for inside. They must be kept inside during the cold times and thrive inside. Also, bouganvillea is good. If you start reading up, you will see that even these will benefit by being outside during warm summer days and evenings. Sheflara is good too, but you can't really shape them like most bonsai. If you do a search for "Indoor Bonsai" on the web you will find all kinds a great advice. Have fun! |
