i recently purchased a hinoki cypress in an 8 inch pot, im in melbourne australia and it's getting colder every day. i would love to repot and or prune. as i dont have many conifers, i need some good advice
it could make an interesting mother and son/twin trunk or maybe a formal upright, even a spreading old forest giant i have posted a couple of pics, a hortriot first.....hooray there is a trunk in there about the thickness of my thumb, which also doubles as a thumbs up for bonsaitalk if you like i can take it out of the pot and scratch some soil off to expose the base of the trunk could someone please put me onto the right thread or give a little advice talk soon[IMG][/IMG]

Hi Hortriot, If you could post some pics of the trunk line and branches, i would be glad to help you! Hinoki's are one of my favorites to work with! Hans. |

I am assuming that if June is the begining of our summer it is the begining of your winter? I would not do any root work on this tree at this time. You can do some pruning on the top but save the potting etc, till Dec. in your lattitude. Hans is right if you could post some pictures of the tunk it would be a great help.

That's not a problem, just don't do something you should not at this time of year.
