Do you mean moss or actual grass?

Because you should be careful about grass, some are very agressive and could fill your entire pot with grass rhizomes suffocating your roots.

I would suggest moss as bonsai ground cover. The usual method is to collect moss from outside, they grow anywhere cool moist and shady, usually on the northern side of treee trunks in the Northern Hemisphere because there is more shade on that side. After you collect there are several ways to plant it. The least effective is to just stick it onto the soil that your tree is growing in. More effective is to dry it out and shred it over hardward cloth or a screen and that the shreded moss and sprinkle that over the soil. One of the moderators here suggests taking collected moss and tossing it in a blender with water to make a paste and spread the paste over a growing medium in a shallow tray. And then when you need the moss, just slip it from the tray onto your tree.

that is the thread I was talking about, more than you will ever need to know probably

Regretsmyl, if you want moss under your tree you need to tell us if it lives outside the house or inside the house.

Also, you need to know that sometimes moss might keep the tree too wet. If the soil is wet for moss it may be too wet for the tree. Many people only put the moss on the tree when they are going to show the tree in a contest. They don't keep the moss on all the time.

If the tree lives outside, then you can look for moss growing on rocks in your yard, especially after it rains. Carefully dig up some of that moss and put it on your soil. It might dry up for a while but it will come back and be green when the rains come, or you can spray a little water on top of the soil every day.

If the tree lives inside it might be harder to get the moss to grow, but you could try.
