bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Is there any way of turning off these thumbnails? I don't like having to click to see a proper sized picture. Where someone has attached more than one to a post it's downright tedious.

You can make them display as links but I don't know about makeing them show full size. The thumbnails don't use as much bandwidth when someone posts 12 oversized pictures and you only need to see one . But on the other hand if you want to see all the pictures it uses slightly more bandwidth.

No, not really, The forum portion of the site alone gets about a 14,000 visits and a quarter million hits every month. We were pulling down more than 1.2GB per day in downloads before going to thumbnails. With the current level of membership, displaying inline images really isn't practical.

I am researching the possibility of opening attachments in a new window, which should make it easier to browse. We might also be able to look at making the thumbnails a little larger, too.

Can you explain what you mean? It wouldn't seem to matter whether it is one to a post or several to a post.

Matt

Matt,
I believe that he is saying that clicking on one photo, then clicking back, then clicking on the next, then clicking back, etc. can be tedious work.

Thanks Charles, I understand that, I don't understand how it would be any different if there were a string of posts with one attachment per.

Regards,

Matt

Thanks Charles, that is exactly what I mean.

For example have a look at Charles' contest entry thread:

http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthread.php?t=8489

(nice entry btw)

I understand that there are bandwidth issues. Maybe the opening in separate windows might help.

Sure I know you'd have to open it three times, I just don't know
>Where someone has attached more than one to a post it's downright tedious.

How it would be any different if he had attached one picture per post for three posts. Same deal.

Regards,

Matt

I've understood the necessity of this decision, but, Matt, it'll be a good deal if you can find the possibility of opening attachments in a new window. Tnanks in advance.

Have a look at it now and let me know if it works

1. If you don't have JAVASCRIPT: If you click on the thumbnail or the word ENLARGE, the detail image will open in a new image using html, pretty much as before, but in a new window.

2. If you do have Javascript... it will open in a smaller, new window that will always have top focus, meaning you don't need to close it the whole time you are viewing the site! you can just keep clicking the different ENLARGEments or return to the forum without closing it.

Important - just leave the popup window open to speed things up. Even if it gets buried, It will get brought back to the top each time you click a new link. Otherwise if you close it, it will take longer to load it each time.

Attached are a couple attachments to play with. Let me know if it works, please

Regards,

Matt
