Moderator's Note: This thread has been extracted from the thread one's trash..., as that thread veered wildly off course at about post #20. In the interests of keeping this thread on track, please report any posts in this thread that mention Pyracantha, Air-Layering and/or Bonsai.

Right here is the problem I have with the Chat room. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with the chat room but here we have a reference to a question asked here, in the forum, being hashed out in the chat room. There of course is nothing wrong about that with the exception of this annoying fact; what is said in chat is not archived for those who were not in chat to look at, reference or comment about after the fact. Often those who would have benefited most from that information know only, at this point, they missed it. I also kind of find it disingenuous to answer a post in the forum with the following or any of its equivalents: " Oh--Oh--I know but I'm not going to tell anyone." Hey people, if you know an answer to a question put up the answer, if you don't want to do that or share the info then don't respond. But this I'm smarter than you attitude is condescending. Of course this is just my opinion knowing full well that I am about to have a foot sandwich.

And I hope you have washed your feet before you eat. Because you are way off the mark here. The chat room is a pretty good place to handle a lot of things. It isn't passive and it is done in real time. Most of the time in chat the questions are well though out and answers are given on the spot. Feed back is imediate. The one giving the answer knows right now if that answer is understoond. It only took a few seconds in the chat room to get things right on this post. Absolutly nothing wrong with that. Why do you want to make a big deal out of it. That could only ruin a thread that is now back on track |

That's nice Ron, but we only have your word on that, there is no written record of the conversation, no record of the information shared, no interchange of the discussion that took place because of it----it was kind of like preaching to the chior. So from my point of view I was not wrong and for the reasons I have pointed out.

What was hashed out in chat had nothing to do with the original question that Ab asked, it was in fact that the tone that was conveyed from Ab. As those of you who have been in chat with me quickly understand i encourage the Newbies to ask question in chat as well as in the forum, but I also realize and have pointed out to some of you guys that a lot of the newbies get slammed hard here in the forums. As is evident in the original tone of Abs posting. It was posted as a Defensive post. Both Ab and Ron came to chat and it was worked out...... Irene (Mom)

Let me give you another example: Monday? I think it was, I participated in a chat session. During this time an individual, who I will not name out of respect for their privacy, posted a series of pictures confirming the things I have been saying about Mugo Pines for years. He followed my instructions, as well as he understood them, and has obtained some pretty amazing results. You should have seen the pictures of new bud development they were spectacular.
How do you know I am telling you the truth? All you have is my word on it. In short, if this little description and play by play is all you have to go on, of what profit is it to you or anyone else interested in the subject. You, they or anyone else cannot go to a search chat function and look it up----I know I would if I could. But what happens in chat is only significant for the moment and has little of lasting value or worth after the page disappears. Again, this is not a condemnation of Chat, it is however a complaint as to how it is used.

Fine by me at least the meaning of this thread will not be lost to cyber extinction going off page, which is of course the same thing, and the cause of my complaint.

I encourage each person to post updated pics on progress so that all can share in the knowledge....
BT is a Family of Members. We share in the accomplishments and the defeats... And we have ALL killed trees..... It is how we all learn..... And yes Vance I do see your point as well as Ron's point..... But I see way to much of the newbies getting slammed for asking a question. This is a "World Wide" forum, where there is no border. What has to be understood by all is in how to ask the questions! Irene (Mom) Now if you boys are finished using the thread I will be in chat! Might not be a bad place for you guys to work out any differences ya might have so we can get back to talking Bonsai..........

If anybody slams a newbie they deserved to get slammed themselves, unless you are equating "Slamming" with telling them the truth, or questioning the source of some of the things some of them believe. The peculiar thing I have noticed is that some of the "Slammers" or people that could be perceived as "Slammers" are some of the individuals that frequent the Chat room. Just an observation. However we are talking bonsai here, one aspect of it, how information about bonsai is shared. Irene, not wishing to pick at you but you made the statement: I encourage each person to post updated pics on progress so that all can share in the knowledge.... BT is a Family of Members. We share in the accomplishments and the defeats... This is all true and fine as far as it goes, but it does not go far enough. The information and the images shared in the chat room are like songs in the wind, they are here and there only for the moment and then they are lost. There is no data base that can be retrieved from this part of the forum. I am hoping that the individual that shared the Mugo pictures when I was there will share them on the general foruml. If he is afraid he will get hammered by someone let him know that someone will have to deal with me.
