New BonsaiTALK header logo suggestion:

I've made two very quick suggestions to a new header logo.

The problem with the current one is that the text is very "aliased" i.e. jagged. So I did two new examples of how it could look instead...

I've made them out of the original so they should fit in without any hazzle... Same size, same colors and a white rising border to blend in with the page as it is today.

joakimlinden,

They are both very nice! I appreciate your skills as the original logo is something thrown together in about 30 minutes on a harried day before the forum reopened.

Maybe we should try each one for a week or so and then take some votes?

Oh - some people are using the blue background - if you look at the bottom left of the page there is a box where you can select between the two. The blue format has no logo at all.

Unfortunately I was not able to save either one properly. They both come through as BMP in Windows, not GIFs. I don't know why. I saved and renamed them as GIF, but they will not open. I got around this by saving them as bmps as windows wanted to, then resaved them in an image editor. I don't know if they have the full quality and appropriate dithering, but it seemed to work...

Regards,

Matt

I was gonna keep my mouth shut on this one, but seeing as how the topic has been brought up I will add to it.

First of all, for me this site is purely functional. It serves as a resource for information on Bonsai and the things related. This is the main reason why, being a designer, I have not commented on the appearance of the site.

This morning I immediately noticed the new Bonsai Talk thingy in red at the top of the screen. Because I am a sucker for powerfull images, my immediate response was, "wow! allright! This is good!"...but then, yeah, the use of the image breaks the text horizon wich creates confusion in recognition of the word "Talk". My spelling may be off on this one, but I think it is lacking "Gestault".

If we were going to give the forum a make-over, the first thing to do would be to create an "identity" wich would work no matter where it was applied. The previous title wich was replaced by this red one WORKED as part of the Bonsai Talk identity. Funky, yes, but it WORKED. The new red one is powerfull and more formal than the old one, but if we are going to use something like that, then the entire identity needs to be redesigned around this new title.

As far is benefitting the user usage of the site, the old identity is the best bet for now. It may be lacking in some ways, but it is established, and people recognize it. Until an entire new identity is designed, I would not impliment any major changes that do not work with the already existing one.

I'm with huck too... I just HAD to add something "bonsaiy" while I was at it... The only thing really needed is an anti-aliased logo text, otherwise I don't mind the old version either. I'll upload one that looks like the old logo but with smoother text as soon as I have time. Later tonight possibly.

The previous tiltle WAS red wasn't it? Or is my Firefox browser playing tricks with me? Well red, with a condensed typeface...

Are you talking about this one?

We had that for almost 2 years until maybe 4-5 months ago.

You know it was about the time the smiley guy disappeared that things got edgy around here. Maybe it's time to bring him back!

Regards,

Matt

Well, I'm on cool blue so I was a bit puzzled about what you chaps are talking of.

I switched to earthy and there it was... I think if you were to pick a colour out of the earthy range and use that for the text/graphic it would look better.

Not that it matters a monkey's to me though

Regards,

Chris.
