Just Out Of Curiousity...
now that this art conversation has died down a bit, i have seen that we have quite a few people with opinions around here, so i would like to know if you avoid threads because you don't know, don't agree, don't care, or don't like. i myself have a short attention span when it comes to reading, so for me, the shorter, the better (unless its something that really grabs me right away). please vote, curious to see what happens here.

Chris,
Would you mind clarifying the question? When you say "avoid threads", do you mean avoid reading them or avoid responding to them? When you say "don't know", do you mean don't know what the thread is about because the thread topic doesn't really specify, so you don't bother to read it? Or, don't know anything about the topic after reading the thread? Thanks, lm |

larry,
the answer to your question about avoiding threads is...both. as far as your other question, i was more refering to not knowing anything about the topic, but you raise a good point as well. will, LOL!!! chris

I learned along time ago on this forum that it is best to only add to the conversation when some of these things happen.
One you personally are asked a direct question. Two, you actually know or have experience and can teach some one something about the related question or topic. Three, opinions are like belly buttons. Four you have a question of your own. Five, you have a genuine like or dislike for compositions, and can qualify those comments with a why or why not. I find that my time is better spent this way. This is only my opinion. Paul

To answer the question of why I don't reply to threads... Many times I don't have enough experience yet to be very confident of my answer.
If I feel compelled to reply I do! ![]()

I sometimes find my self writing loads and loads, and then going back through it and thinking, what the hell? it just never seems to make sense, i think i have too many thoughts on some of the more detailed discussions to enter into them because my brain just cant handle it.

HI Chris, i find the art threads to be to heavy for me, lets just enjoy what we do art or not, one day bonsai may get the ackolade (sp?) it deserves who knows, but I'd rather be doing bonsai.

Must admit that I don't read all posts. I do look at all the tittles and zero in on the ones that seem interesting. Might miss out on a lot this way but that is the way it goes.
Art topics I do shy away from. That has gotten to be the never ending road to nowhere. For me at least. Others must find them of some merit because so much is said on the subject. That is ok by me, not all posts have to be written with my likes in mind. I hear a lot of people say they are a bit afraid to post. Most say that they don't know enough to take a chance on posting. This is not a problem that only the inexperienced have, it is also a problem for the experienced person as well. A new person asking a question will usually get a lot of answers. When the old hand answers a question he/she will usually have to defend that answer. I don't know which is worse, being afraid to ask a question or being afraid to answer one. But then I guess that is just the nature of a forum like ours. One thing surprises me though. The number of PM's I get asking about soils wiring.etc. I would have thought that more of these questions would be asked publicly. Not complaining though. I enjoy the messages. Sometimes I even know the answer ) |
