how do I stop these auto pop up thingies?

I'm not talking ads, I'm talking a quirk of this sites hoster. When I hover the mouse over a topic heading i get a line all the way across thescreen showing the contents of the posting, most annoying.
I also get this on another site, a music forum,. and it uses the same hoster(pic)

I tried to get a screengrab of what I'm talking about but it wouldnt let me.

I think you are talking about tooltips? See image below. Some browsers render them as lines, some as boxes. When you are looking at a forum index and put your mouse over one of the hotlinked titles, you get a summary of the title.

Tips actually have nothing to do with our host and nothing new to the site, but it's a feature that lets you preview a post without following the link. If you don't like it you can always 'park' your mouse somewhere else on the page. (Or some might say, on a different page, but watch out for pop flying saucepans, pages of dogfood and the Pillsbury doughboy)
