Huh? Houston We Have A Problem

I'm curious why in the ( General discusion forum ), under ( New to the forum " Who are these Clowns ", it says Clowns?

Many of the people that became members at Bonsai Talk are not clowns, as a matter of fact; some are doctors, lawyers, scientist, geologist, multi world bonsai champions, who happen to be anything but a clown. I for one came from a wealthy, hard working family, retired at age 23 and find being called a " clown " offensive.

More important, many of Bonsai Talk members work full time jobs to try and make their country and the world a better place. They come home to relax, cook, take care of their kids and attempt to aquire information about their loved hobby of bonsai at the website of Bonsai Talk, who claim to be 100% professional. After their hard day, they even continue after a hard day to customize pictures to make avaliable to the public, not because they were asked but because they did it from their heart.

I think these people including me, deserve more. We were asked to be professional and we are being professional. Now we ask the people that have the ability to make changes to the website be professional.

I think that ( New to the forum " Who are these clowns " , should be changed to ( New to the forum " Who are these members ".

I would like only people who can make changes to this great website make a post here and explain where I'm wrong, being they claim to be 100% professional.

With regards,

Corey

Personally i dont find that title offensive at all. I think it is just a light humour to get members in a cheerful mood. I dont disagree with you that some people could possibly take offense, but people who take great offense to something like that would be totally distraught about some things that are said in forums on other websites. If one is offended so greatly, dont post there?

Please dont take any offense to what i said, just MHO

Hi Pearl I can understand, to a certain degree, what you write about the thread "Who are these clowns" but Carl Bergstrom would have written that with his tongue firmly in his cheek. Initially, I too, was offended by the title but soon got over it as an American way of expression and humour.

I did note that you posted in 'Forum Members Introduction' which was probably a more appropriate thread and certainly more populated than the other. This indicates to me that you are not the only one who found the label of "clown" a tad offensive.

Elmboy is probably correct in stating that we have to move on ( my interpretation) and get into the core subject bonsai. I cordially invite you into the chat room to meet with a good cross section of this community to discuss all kinds of subjects.

Kind Regards Ash

G'day friends...

And I hope we are friends...

Elmboy... you said "...GREAT JOB you have proven yourself what you are claiming not to be ...a CLOWN!!...". After Corey said "offended" at being called a Clown...that's ("...GREAT JOB...) not at all in good taste.

Corey...sorry you are offended. Please understand that the CLOWN thing is intended to add a bit of humor. I hope you can take it that way. After all, we don't want to have to be a bunch of stuffed shirts just because we're discussing bonsai.

It's good to have fun...isn't it? Sometimes?

Pat

In to days world you have to have a skin as thick as a Rhino, especially if you are on a Bonsai site, they don't take any prisoners.
If you look at that thread it has 244 replies, this was simply meant to do this, to stimulate a discussion.
I could post a new thread stating *I am the greatest Bonsai expert you have ever seen * I am quite sure THAT !! would create an uproar.

As far as retiring at 23, i have socks older than you. Cheers.

Corey,

Ash is indeed correct, in stating that the original thread to which you refer was started by Carl Bergstrom. That goes back to the very early days of bT, when the membership probably was still in the low hundreds. It was certainly intended as a jokey way of people introducing themselves. Did you ever go back and read the first post he made?

Sometime back, I myself modified the title with the words "New to the Forum", to allow it to come up better in searches. Indeed, as also pointed out there is another thread where you can place information in a more conventional manner - you simply take your pick.

As for calling people Clowns, nothing could be more tongue in cheek than with good ole' Carl, who happens to be a University Professsor (as we in England call them) and a quick google search will reveal the vast number of scientific papers he has worked on! Try this for starters........

Please relax and peruse the site and community we have here.
Bonsai is a hobby to most but a select few, so enjoy your retirement and make the best of the time you have available.

By the way - what is the Family Business?
Only so I can see where I went wrong.

Best Regards,
Ian.

(Still working at 47!)
