So, my curiousity is aroused. It is a beautiful object (would it be entirely heretical to suggest it as an accent object, even?), but what is it?

Thanks for your interest, it is a low temperature differential stirling engine.

Basically it converts heat into motion. The heat of the hand heats the air inside which expands, pushing a piston up, which turns the wheel. When the piston is at the top of its stroke the air is cooled, which allows atmospheric pressure to push the piston back down again, continuing the rotation. On a warm hand, you will get 100 rpm. On a cup of coffee, you will get 500 rpm.

There is a bit more to it than that , have a look at my website to find out more: Treebeard online .

Regards,

TB

TB,

maybe it's a silly question, but would you consider it art?

Attila

P.S.: After a second thought, it IS a stupid question. So, please don't answer it.

Testing 800x600 image...

Attila, not such a silly question... Quite a cunning on in fact.

That first red one is not art but imho this blue one is a work of art...

btw the link in the earlier post now only links to my tree site, the engine site is gone.

Regards,

Chris.

OK, I've been itching to post some pictures for a couple of days now...

...but I have none of bonsai or even any of wild trees.

So I'm going to post a few pics of what occupied my time during my recent bonsai hiatus. This is what I've been getting up to in my shed of an evening recently (I also have the use of hitech machinery at work).

Regards,

Chris.
