FlyBri The BonsaiGuy: My Life As A Blog!

Monday March 26th, 2007

Good morning all, and welcome to FlyBri's Blog!

Isn't the Internet a wonderful thing? I mean, without it, how could you have the enormous pleasure of reading my Blog? Now, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, and a big series of tubes, you all can finally share my deepest thoughts and feelings about Bonsai, the Universe, and everything in between!

When I first had the revolutionary idea to Blog my life, I was flooded with questions from hundreds of my closest fans all around the world, and it would be wrong of me not to address some of their concerns. Following are just some of the questions I received:

Well, my dear devotees, my responsibilities as a Moderator here at bonsaiTALK often prevent me from speaking my mind on many matters, especially those which are not strictly Bonsai-related. In my exalted appointment, TreeBay (Matt) relies upon my impartiality, good judgement, and - dare I say it? - professionalism to help maintain the integrity of bonsaiTALK - and I have to admit that I sometimes find the aforementioned impartiality and integrity smothering my true sense of self.

Well, yes and no - mostly no. I do understand the importance of sharing my Bonsai thoughts on a Bonsai site, but ultimately this is my Blog, so you can expect to hear my innermost feelings on almost any given topic that springs to my mind. I have far too many important thoughts and opinions to limit myself to the fairly narrow and specialized field of Bonsai. For instance, I was reading another Blog by another Bonsai site Mod, and some of the things I read there were nothing more than simple attempts to incite (whatever that means). In my Blog, I might take it upon myself to rebute (whatever that means) the claims being made in this other Blog, or better yet, launch a pre-emptive retaliatory counter-attack against this other Blog and its Blogger, before they do the same to me and my Blog. (I know you might think me vain to believe this other Blogger has any interest in my or my Blog, but trust me here: the way he has ignored my Blog is exactly the same way in which a teenage girl with a crush avoids eye contact with the object of her affection in the hallway.)

See? I'm not ashamed to discuss anything at all here in my Blog! Crazy huh?

Good question - thanks for asking it, and thanks for the kind words! The restraint and level-headedness with which I participate/Moderate at bonsaiTALK is merely a facade. OK - so I do a great job at maintaining this facade. Let's face it: this front is what got me the job in the first place, but surely Matt, my fellow Mods and bonsaiTALK sponsors cannot reasonably expect me to keep it up 24/7. It's hard work, after all...

Thankfully, my Blog frees me from the burdens of responsibility, accountability and good taste. Why? Because it is my Blog, and the opinions contained herein are just that: my opinions. Within my Blog, I can say whatever I like about whomever I choose - all without fear of reflecting badly on bonsaiTALK, because they are my opinions. If you don't like my opinions (even if they are mostly based on proven fact), then don't read my Blog - you will be the only one missing out!

Thanks! Yes it does take up a lot of my time and energy, but Hect (whatever that means) no! Since this is my Blog, I can confide that I don't really have any Bonsai of note - as has been discussed on Bonsai forums for some time now. Besides, the patience and discipline required to produce a artistic Bonsai is nothing compared to the instant gratification of possibly being validated by tens of hits on the Internets.

So, this is my Blog. I hope you enjoy it. In closing, let me quote an saying my Grandfather used to say to me when I seen him as a kid:

Mr. Fly,

I am so glad you have decided to chronicle [whatever that means] your thoughts and innermost feelings...Other bloggers be damned [whatever that means], 'you still da man' in my book...Just a few days ago I received the strangest [whatever that means] PM here on the forum...I had not a clue what was going on until I read the beginnings of your new 'blog'...Now I fully understand this PM was actually meant for you, and was mistakenly delivered to me [whatever that means]...I am inclosing it here...
