Wisteria Blooming => Black Pine Repotting Time
There is a practical side of horticulture that involves the observation of naturally occuring phenomena, and then using that information to help anticipate other events.
You might, for instance, notice that your Maples push buds early, and the Beech trees are very late, and use that information to help guide your repotting order for the following year.
There is a Japanese saying that the blooming of the wisteria marks the optimum time to transplant Japanese Black Pine. This advice seems to hold true in Japan at least. We have had some cold nights recently, but this wisteria (a large one I collected from a neighbor's landscape a few years ago). appears to be a couple of weeks ahead of others in its anticipation of an early spring.
Watch for wisteria blooming in your neighborhood, and see if you can use that information to your advantage in coming years.
