I read about doing this a number of years ago, using cascade trees, laying on side and pointing the weak tip up. Was a number of years, back when people were still putting cascades in to really tall pots, involved buiding a rack to hold the round pot, setting level when watering. Could have been a Naka book. Good to see good ideas get reinvented over and over again- means they work. John

same idea...
i just repotted my bouganvilla to train it to be more windswept. it was kinda fallen tree growing upward (first pic). it was all very akward. so i put it in a training pot (excuse the mess) more vertically (pic 2)and maybe next year (or the next) i'll pot it back more horizontally, but not so flat, waiting to see if it flowers before pruning. (4th pic) is a view from underneath . i've basically let it grow for the last year, and i know that chop-stump has to go, but i've been babying it a bit.
also the leaves are a bit yellow, (3rd pic) it this chlorosis? i haven't seen any pics of it yet... any advise is appreciated. any thoughts? let me know. i have tough skin

About the bougainvillea... How much do you water it? They don't like to be overwatered. You can kind of neglect them and they seem to do better. At least that's my experience.

i dont think it was overwatering personally, this one only gets watered once or twice a week. hard to say because i'm watering something everyday. i did just start fertilizing more frequently with spring arriving, and i am being more diligent with that. i did neglect to mention that this is an indoor plant, and actually was a bit greener before i moved it to a brighter spot, but i want to get most of my plants outside this summer so i moved it. the spotting is not actually that bad but i wan to make sure it stays that way. sorry for hi-jacking the thread, in retrospect i should have started a new one but was adding to the conversation and just lumped my other problems in with it.... any styling ideas anyone, on the right path but looking for encouragement... should i leave the 'split trunk', or chop one off? once it starts to bounce back from the repot, i'm thinking of defoliating and working on branch structure... err branch length, not really any ramification here... anyway drop a line especially if you know bougies....
