Where Should I Layer This?

i am going to airlayer this atropurpureum soon and was wondering where i should make the cuts. i want to layer because some rabbits got to part of the tree that looks kind of like some kind of graft (maybe peg graft?) and it will leave large scar because of the funky graft or whatever that is. i have circled the area where the rabbits struck before they ate it. thanks

i would airlayer right above the cut. But i don't think that is a graft. it is too straight and presents no bumps as you would regulary see on a grafted tree. The wound should heal with little scarring so if i were you i would leave it alone

Pesky rabbits!

I can't really see enough of the tree to make any suggestions, except a "rabbit proof fence"

Regards,

Matt

It's fairly common to layer right beneath the spread of branches to develop a multi-trunk style. It's hard to tell from your photo if the branching offers a good option. Maybe if you remove some of the leaves around that area and/or shoot from a different angle in front of a plain background?

Regards,

Matt

if i were you i wouldn't bother airlayering. The tree is already thin and needs fattening
