Pieris Japonica Variegata
Hi all, I just picked up a Verigated Lilly-of-the-valley (Pieris Japonica Variegata). I was drawn to it because of the beautiful flowers and a nice healthy tapered trunk. Has anyone ever used this plant for a bonsai? Any suggestions or tips on using such a plant?
Also, my mom picked up a Fuchsia Thymifolia and I would appreciate any thoughts on these as well. Cheers, Jesse |

Have a look: http://tinyurl.com/rjupj
Is this the same as yours? I've never heard it called lilly of the valley. I used tinyURL.com to shorten the link, pretty cool eh? |

The posted link is a Pieris Japonica and they do look awesome when in flower
I have one I picked up last year that I am starting to style now, but mine is not Verigated variety but dark green leaves. They will back bud when cut, but not reliably where you you want it :-( Ken

I came across a Pieris in Wilkinsons yesterday but it was too thin for bonsai. These plants are great but thyey are ericaceous meaning they dont like lime in th soil, it has to be acid, like rhododendrons ericas and azaleas.

I also started a thread on Pieris japonica variegata - just search and you will find it.
I also happened to purchase a fuchsia thymifolia last week as well!! coincidence? anyways I am planning on using it as a bonsai down the road - it is a wonderful variety. It has a wooddy enough trunk and tiny little leaves so I am sure it will work fine. |
