olive air layer

does anyone know how well olives respond to airlayering? I've tried taking cuttings at various times of year and various sizes and had no success (i've never had problems rooting cuttings with other plants). If they do air layer well, is there a best time of year for it?

yo lush im not to sure about your climate but where i come from cuttings are taken mid fall. full sun good drainage and lots of water. i have 2" wide cuttings that have taken. so if they take this easy airlayers would be a sinch but i have never bothered. climate is the key, remember their medditeranean origin.

Should layer fine - I've some olives that were imported from Spain some year ago. They'd all been treated the same which appeared to be - saw through branch, plant in heavy soil - had lots of fine fibrous roots. Largest was probably 3", several of the others 2".
I've layering one in the past - layer started rooting reasonably, tho' iirc I lost it due to my own stupidity like forgetting to water it.
