Formal upright - training a new leader

Some place (a long while ago) I read of a technique used to specifically avoid or prevent the unsightly kink that can occur when you chop and train up a new branch as a leader but for the life of me I can't remember what it was! If anyone has any information about this technique please let me know as I have just bought a cryptomeria and it will be good in the Formal Upright style.

Cheers,

Marie

If one board doesn't do the trick - try another!

Friday night is always a bad time to post and expect a fast answer.
Guess everyone has gone for the weekend. Wouldn't be surprised if you get a lot of answers on Monday.
