Then i find the money i will look into buying the books, John Naka's Bonsai Techniques I & II. My father had them at one time but lost them when he moved.

I tryed my best but all i got was something that looked like a kid was playing in the mud, I will wait until the roots grow in more before i try it again, maybe next time i will find what i was looking for, the slate i used was silver quartzite flagstone, i used 15 trees maybe they will fill out better I think this forest thing was just a little to much for me, i will add some photos.

Mikey,
Looks ok for your first try. Like all else in bonsai it takes practice. The placement of the trees look fine, what I see as the problem is that all the trees are the same size and height. Maybe trim the height of the outer trees so that the center ones are taller. In time this planting can improve.
Thanks for sharing.

Think of all the knowledge you gained! I am impressed with the slab edge you built. What did you use? How much does the slate cost where you live?

Waltr is right. Let the little guys fill out and mature. Aim for the scalene triangle shape in the canopy so that they are a united image. You can add a few trees in time that have a more mature appearance. You can scalene triangulate them within the forest as your #1,2,3 trees. I have a great article bookmarked. I will look for it.

G'day Mikey...

Barbara's suggestion of Brent's (evergreengardenworks) article is very good...

However, here's one that I think is better...it is 13 pages from a Tom Zane Syllabus.
Thirteen pages, with drawings, of how to bo a forest planting. It is a pdf file...

Look at pages 72-85.

http://www.bonsai-bsf.com/resources...iate_bonsai.pdf

This just might be good enough to make you want to start over.

Remember, Mikey, bonsai is a trip that demands time and patience...welcome aboard, and enjoy the journey.

Did I mention "patience"?

Pat
