Diapers?

I have read in gardening mags that one can use diapers in their garden for water retention. Does anyone know if you can use diaper stuffing in a Bonsai mix for water retention. can this be hazerdous to a tree? Can it cause a possable fungal attack?
If anyone tries this I would suggest using a new diaper!!!
You think Fish fertilizer stinks up your yard!!!

If you are talking about disposable diapers, they contain a granular compound that absorbs many times its weight in water. Rather than dealing with diapers you can just buy a jug or packet of Soil Moist Granules. They resemble grains of raw sugar and swell up to teaspoon and tablespoon sized chunks of jell-o

I found them at Orchard Supply & hardware. Might be something you could use in a growing pot, but I think it'd be a great idea to use it in bonsai pot because it will swell up and work its way to the top. But that is another story.

Colin Lewis has a humorous story about that stuff in his new book. He thought it would be a good idea and then found out that everytime he watered the tree, the whole tree would rise up out of the pot! As the soil dried out, it would lower itself back in! He decided the stuff wasn't too good for bonsai. LOL

Good point earl. I didnt think it would swell up that much. I guess I will save the diapers for my baby boy.
