Howdy. Ok, I know lime sulphur is used to preserve deadwood on evergreens and conifers. What I need info or tips on is what to use to preserve decidous deadwood? I was told awhile back by Todd Hansen of what to use, tea oil is what comes to mind but I am not sure. Memory is not as good as it used to be. Any help would be much appreciated. Steven

This thread may be helpful. http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/f20/jin...phur-19315.html It discusses alternatives for lime sulfur and one post from rockm discusses the differences between lime sulfur and some of the Minwax products suggested... |

Here is the tree in question. It is a 3 trunk American Elm. The closeup with the green lines shows the areas that were cleaned out of dead rotted wood. Though these might help

Would you like those wounds do heal or to keep them exposed ? |

Keep them exposed if possible. My look on it is that these deadwood areas were left on the tree 2 to 3 yrs. The large area was a from a part of the trunk cut(trunk chop) and just left on not being cut flushed or concaved. The elongated one looks like a leader was cut but didn't go completely through the bark and stripped some of the bark off. Probably the result of not so sharp cutters. This was how the tree was sent to me. It is a replacement tree for a couple of trees that did not revive in a 7 tree forest. Sorry for the babbling on and on.

They are hollowed out. Took a Dremel to them to remove and hollow out the areas.
