Big/Thick roots for Desert Roses help please.

Hi New here, great site to say the least!

I am starting with the Desert Roses and would like to make mine have larger (nice though) curley above ground roots with the smaller branches/flowers on top. I've done so much research and am having a real hard time coming up with answers on the Desert Roses. All I see are the everyday looking tall, long leaved, straight D. Roses I want to have professional looking plants.
All help is greatly appreciated!

D. rose are very hard to get large roots on. Keep the roots under the soil. They are slow to to size. Do (NOT) over water they like to rot out. Lost more then I can tell you. Like all bonsai it takes time. Good luck

You live in Florida which is good for D Roses. I returned from a trip to Vietnam where D Rose bonsai is popular. They say that heat and humidity are good for them. They also told me that they allow the branches to grow long for a while (two years) and then trim them back hard. Cover the wound with something (they just use tape) to keep water from rotting the wound. The roots should swell up with time... yes time. Like every bonsai it takes time. I think they told me they raise the plant to expose the roots every three years. They use dog or cow poop as fertilizer. When they have an exposed root system they like then they work on the branches. Wiring and triming keeps then looking natural.

Hmm, we are in our rainy season here now and for the next 4 months or so. (It rains here almost everyday for a while) I may need to move the plants where the rain can't get to them everyday so they can stay dry.

They are a neet plant. Mine seem to be growing real fast. I did put some Miracle (sp?) Grow on them and now they are growing at such a fast pace. They do look good.
