Austrian black pine Questions
Today at the local nursery, I saw Austrian Black pine. One at a nice trunk with movement in the first foot of it.
I look at it, and ask myself these questions wich I had no answer since I dont know this species. 1) How well Austrian black pine react to being trained in bonsai ? 2) How well would it react to a trunk chop ? 2.1) What would be the ideal time for a trunk chop ? 2.2) Would it do back budding ? 2.2.1) Back bud on existing branch only or on trunk also ? 3) Any needles reductions possible with these type of pine ? 4) What else should I know about these pines ? In hope of someone answering my questions, I post here. Thanks, Patrick |

Pinus nigra can be treated a lot like Japanese Black Pine. I have found they behave similarly. They are strong, robust trees.
