Where To Find Tools Online?
All i have got so far are scissors and wire. I really want to get some more tools in order to go on with bonsai, but I want to go about it wisely and spend money on something good and not too expensive.
Does anybody know any good sites? What should I pay for a tool set? And does anybody want to sell me anything? -jacob |

I bought a pair of concave cutters off ebay. They work great. With shipping I spent $18.00 They are not the highest qualility, but like I said they do the job the same as an expensive pair. Maybe when they get dull I will buy a good pair.

A lot of buyers off of ebay are suckers. You have to invest time to get a reasonable priced tool set on ebay. I spent $40 on my first set, which came with a concave cutter, knob cutter, root pick, and rake/tweezer combo. Since then I have invested a few hundred in my tools, which still are not of the highist quality.

If you're going to buy a number of tools, enough to offset $15 per pound shipping charges, I'd suggest Bonsai Network Japan: http://www.j-bonsai.com/ You save about 40% on the tool prices, and they are also a great place to go when you decide to upgrade to Masakuni tools. |

Jacob, I got most of my tools from Bonsai by the Monastery whose on-line store can be reached at bonsaimonk.com. I found their prices to be fair and quality quite good. Be careful though! Their website and actual store is pervaded with the dreaded "Japanese Cultural Influence"! I love it, but I've learned from the bonsai internet sites, it's not for everybody!

YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME

Jacob et al, take a look at the top of this (or any) page. You will see various ads for tools etc. The ad says "Your Purchase Supports bonsaiTALK" something to think about!
I know that Joshua Roth Tools are featured here. As I have said in another thread they really do stand behind their product. When I returned my concave cutters for repair, they were replaced and the new one returned to me in under a week. They come with a 3 year guarantee...not to shabby! JR tools are excellent, I'm not saying they are the best, just a real good tool at a fair price with a great guarantee.... Jay

Jacob, Something else to think about. I am sure there are several Brands of tools that will meet your needs. When buying, make sure you get a brand name, and that the name is known to you. If at all possible buy the best you can manage. Yes, there is a difference within a brand... JR has several levels of tools as I'm sure other companies have... it is better to buy one tool of greater quality than to buy two of lesser..... The one tool you should be looking for is the concave cutter!

Jacob, My first concave cutter was purchased from e-bay for about 20.00 . A couple weeks later I was looking for another cutter ,it just wasnt very good quality. My next purchase was from Treebay .com . Matt was very helpful in answering any questions I had and the transaction was smooth as silk. I got the JR-0169 concave cutter the difference in quality between the two was like night and day. If your going to get new tools get the best you can afford and I highly recommend Joshua Roth Tools and Treebay .com
