Toriki tool
Does anyone know where a Toriki tool can be purchased? The Secret Techniques of Bonsai book describes the use of one but I have been able to find a source that sells these.

What's it supposed to do? It's not among the hundreds of tools at this site...

It's a Masakuni tool intended to improve air-layer nebari by creating a rough edge to the cambium as opposed to a clean cut edge that is achieved via traditional techniques.
If you find one, let us know . . . I searched and came up with nothing. I would think however that you could use a rasp or metal file to accomplish the same thing.

I was reading the same book last night and was thinking the same thing as I have never seen on anywhere or anything like it
Hacksaw Blades side by side might work. Make a stack of about 6 or so 12t blades and tape them to gether is the closest I can think of. Ken

I have the book mentioned also. I made my own tool from an old file. The file is about 1" wide and maybe 3/16" thick, and I used a cut-off wheel on my 4 1/2 " grinder to cut several notches on the top edge. Works good. Larry

Pretty damn close . . . the toriki has slightly fewer, larger teeth.

Okay, stupid question time. Don't we try very hard to cut the cambium cleanly for an air layer? Isn't that why we risk our fingers with really sharp knives?
(Someone had to ask it) Joanie
