Drain hole mesh for the lazy?
Is this a way out of having to wire the mesh to the drain hole? Has anybody tried this? It looks like a nice lazy solution.
I bought this "self-stick screen repair kit" at home depot because of these big birds I feed in my backyard; they came one day hungry and didn't find me, so it seems they decided to storm my porch without a warrant. They made a couple of small holes which I fixed with this kit. |

I don't see why they wouldn't. As long as they hold in soil and allow water to pass through, it would seem anything is good enough. I've known others to use similar stuff with success.
What kinda birdie is that hungry fella? pootsie |

One would think that this self-stick stuff would be more expenaive tham the "needle point canvas" that I use for a screen. All it is, is white plastic mesh. and it works great.

I haven't used that product but I have been using something a bit similiar...fiberglass window screen...bought a repair kit a couple of years ago and cut off what I need. I use this for the bottom of all my plants not just the bonsai...I haven't had any problems at all....

just my opinion
I would think the finer screen would get plugged easier then the plastic needlepoint screen.
Not good if it did.

It does, and the needlepoint screen is smaller than bonsai screen. ![]() |

Window screen issues
I've used the fiber-glass window screen, but I've decided it's only good in deeper training pots, because it's a bear getting it untangled from a healthy tree when repotting -- you just have to cut it off!
EDIT: funny funny Matt. Did I ever mention that my Granny used to spray-paint her shrubs green? pootsie Last edited by pootsie : 15-Jan-2006 at 02:08 AM. |
