Arbortech Carver

Has anyone seen or used this tool?

"Arbortech Mini Carver for Bonsai,MIN400
The newest power carver for Bonsai. This tool will save you hours of carving on those large Junipers and Pines. The size of the Mini Carver makes it easy to handle, but it still cuts through hard wood like butter.MIN400"

http://hollowcreekbonsai.com/item82625.ctlg

I found a more extensive writeup on the Arbortech page, where it's called a Mini Carver

http://www.arbortech.com.au/product...inigrinder.html

Regards,

Matt

Hey,

I found it also here

http://shop.woodcraft.com/Woodcraft...amily%5Fid=1846

Complete Mini Grinder ~$154.99

Mini Grinder Kit ~$82.50

Not sure what the difference is, and which one is being sold by the bonsai store.

Regards,

Matt

I have this tool, and have just used it experimentally.

While I like its efficiency in cutting, I'm not sure that it's an improvement over a small chain saw.

Alignment is critical, else you'll destroy the drive belts which cost about $17.

If you're luck, it will simply slip off the drive wheel, and then you get to unscrew 3 screws (easily lost), readjust tension and refit the belt.

In the future, I plan to use either the chain saw or a buzz-out wheel (you can get them from Dale Cochoy, who also sells the Arbortech) on my regular die grinder.

Make me an offer for mine!

BTW, The difference between the two prices is that the higher priced one includes the grinder.

Here the tool is being used by Ray Theime. Ray has many trees in the GSBF Collection North, and I think is a member of the board from the central valley region. Ray likes the tool because it has a smaller cutter head which allows the tool to get in tight. The circular chain saw that I use while moving much more wood more effeciently, is larger and won't get in the smaller areas. The arbor tech does a fine job, and leaves the area nice and smooth.

For the money there are tools that will do an adequate job for less, but the arbor tech does it with less effort. Still need the die grinder to really make the area look natural.

Folks,
I've been selling these since they came out with the die grinder/carver assembly as a "plug in and carve" item. In fact, I met here at my home with the USA rep a couple years ago after I pushed for this since it was a mess trying to carry all the "pieces parts" needed to ad the KIT to your existing right angle grinder, plus at shows NO ONE ever knew what brand they had so I had no way of telling what parts they needed! I sell it, ( and the POWER CHISEL, a GREAT tool! ) only as assembled units. While he was here the rep and I tried the prototype models on some old ponderosa pine "bodies" I had laying around!
I carry the full line of Arbortech items that pertain to Bonsai, and you'll be able to see them real good when I get my redone pages back up :> ).
In the last issue of BCI "Bonsai" magazine there is a 1/2pg ad with Craig Cousins promoting them and my contact info.

The mini-grinder also has an optional carver disc ( 2") that has CARBIDE cutting heads that will greatly outlast the sharpenable two "chainsaw-looking" hardened steel blades that come with the unit.

BTW, here's a picture of the Power Chisel. It eats the Automach alive!!!

Didn't offend me.. please post your stuff to the for sale section. I have been starting to look at carving stuff and your site seems to be under redesign!

Adam,
"your site seems to be under redesign!"

Yes, it sure is. I've been sending lots of email attachments out lately !
It's being redone COMPLETELY, after 5 years!! , by the IBC web designer. I hope a few more weeks but it'll be nice and much more helpful than it was. Hopefully I'll be able to update it myself ( I'm pretty computer illiterate) so I can keep it up to date MUCH better.
I still have an old free Prodigy site just sitting there max'ed out It's way behind but still a bit helpful to people while my site is being redone.

".. please post your stuff to the for sale section"

It might just be me, but, I don't like the association with the eBay pages at the bottom of the forsale page for each item. Someday my image of eBay might change and it won't bother me, but for now I don't like the "closeness" of the association there.

Dale
