There's no choice for "I believe because I've seen it"

I think the scientific community has fairly well explained this. Soft desert sediment, bit of moisture (makes it slick as can be), perhaps icy conditions, strong winds, etc. If you go out there, you'll see how easy it is to leave marks on the ground when there's the slightest of moisture. Tread lightly....
