Rocks for miniature landscapes

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know a product that can be used to treat rocks to increase hardness and durability? I've got a few of those that are very interesting and quite hard, but I have doubts that they will last a long time in a moist environment such as a root-over-rock bonsai.

These rocks are usually coglomerates, an aggregate of lime stone components in a sandstone matrix. I am thinking about impregnating them with some kind of resin to increase hardness. But would also try to avoid giving them a shiny surface.

Any experience out there?

Hey Attila,

Just taken a shot here,... just a thought. Ya can get spray on resin for motorcycle helmets. Comes in a gloss or matt finish. Worth a try Bro

hi a couple of ideas maybe worth researching, in the u.k. ronseal market a product to seal brick from frost and water damage, i forget the name but its thin like water and you just brush it on, the other idea is a product i use in work which impregnates and seals gypsum dies for dental use, its a really thin cyanoacrylate that soaks in and seals without altering the dimensions or appearance regards andrew

Hey guys,

Thanks much for the ideas.

I will have to try a few things and compare which one has the longest lasting effect.

Cheers,
Attila
