One More Rock

Al's suggestions and comments on my last suiseki post were so useful, I thought I'd post one more.

Here's my one other find from that trip. I don't know much about it. It's small, about baseball-sized. It could be an island stone (first picture) or just an object stone (second picture). If the former, I was thinking of setting in a sand-covered suiban at roughly the angle shown.

Thoughts or comments?

Best regards,
OMC

Nice.

What is the possibility of displaying as Charles shows, with the overhang?

Regards,

TB

OMC- has the viewing stone bug just hit you? I know it hit me recently.

BTW I now see who the face is. It reminds me of Hermes the greek messenger god who is the son of zeus. It looks like a face with a helmet on it and on the helmet I see wings. Maybe it is just me about it being hermes, but I definately see a face.

This rock looks to be igneous. Could be sedimentary, but hard to tell from the picture.

What do you think about using the stone like this?

Wow - thanks for all of the suggestions and comments.

Charles, I wouldn't say I've got the bug; beautiful as they are, viewing stones don't have the dynamic aspect of bonsai and so don't have quite the same appeal to me - yet. But I have wanted to add a bit of variety to my displays and a few viewing stones would make that possible. Add to it the time I spent walking the beach in Michigan, you get what you see here.

This stone does stand on its own upside down, as in your picture. With a custom stand, one could easily adjust the angle by a few degrees.

Best regards,
Carl

Geodude,

Thanks for the comments on the type of rock, and thanks especially for the virtual. I really like the slice that you've chosen!

If I decide to get it cut (and I think I will!), I'll definitely follow your advice. That's a beautiful mountain range that it provides.

Right now, I'm displaying it roughly like this (see below). Pretty atypical display, but the best I can do given the current material that I have around the house. Next up, a sand-covered suiban.

Best wishes,
Carl
