Oil And Sandstone Suiseki ?
I have a sandstone Suiseki that represents some cliffs, the only problem is that it’s a light, dull gray and looks almost dirty when dry, I applied a bit of oil to it and it really darkens it and makes it look 'cleaner'... but should I really be applying oil to sandstone suiseki? Will the oil stay in permanently and is it normally used on sandstone Suiseki?

The most prized suiseki are hard, dark and smooth, in addition to its important aspects of shape and character. Since sedimentary rocks like sandstone aren't known for those characteristics, they're not often appreciated as suiseki.
This should not prevent you from enjoying and displaying your sandstone suiseki, but I think it would be appropriate to appreciate it as it is rather than alter it with oil. Some discussion about stone types here: http://www.actionvideo.freeserve.co.uk/suiseki.htm
