Daiza Aren't Too Hard To Carve
This is the fourth daiza that I have ever carved, and I must say, they are not too hard to carve. Looking at the process can be quite intimidating at first glance, and you may have to redo your first try several times. Once you get the hang of it, it is really quite easy.
This one is carved out of poplar which was stained in an English Chestnut stain. Al Keppler talked me into using poplar for carving daiza. It is cheap, so there is room for error. Also, the wood is listed as a softwood, which makes it much easier to carve with. I have used several different woods in attempts to carve daiza. This wood is by far my favorite for carving. Comments, suggestions, questions. By the way, this stone was from Luciana Quierolo. Her for sale website is great. Check it out here- http://www.bonsaiandsuiseki.com/palombino.htm From what I have seen, she offers the most stones for sale than any other online dealer. If you do not find something you like there (which is highly unlikely), she has many more that she is willing to sell that are not listed. I e-mailed her for the price of a shohin stone that she had pictured. It turned out that it was part of her private collection and she was not willing to sell it. She did however show me about 15 other shohin stones that she was willing to sell. I ended up buying 6 of them for a price that I could not refuse. There are two options for the front on this stone. Which do you all prefer?

Front number two. I prefer number one in person, but number two looks much better in picture.

The second front has been turned about 30 degrees to the right. This causes the flow of the stone to become much stronger to the right.
