What a difference a Pot makes !

Hello All,

Here is a Shohin sized Cotoneaster that I bought last weekend at the Sheffield BTA show. Although some like the very bright blue pots as a sharp contrast against the Red berries, I was not too keen on this pot anyway ! So, without disturbing the roots too much, today I quickly dropped it into a new pot I had in storage. Here is a before and after shot.

So, I think this style and size works far better, and the plan will be to remove some of the rootball in the spring lowering the tree down somewhat.

Given that I have a wide choice of glazes, I am interested in your opinions on the best glaze colour for the new pot, so I can get one made over winter.

Or does it need another style/size. One possible thought is to go even shallower with the pot.

The first picture shows how the tree actually is, while the second one is a cropped and duplicated version of the same picture placing the tree and rock lower down.

Appreciate your thoughts and any virtuals.

Regards,
Ian.

Regards,

I also really like the new pot.
I am still trying to figure out the mystery of picking a proper pot for a tree, but I know what I like, and I like what I see here.

Hi Ian

The pot looks 10 times better, but as you say will need to be lowered down in the pot slighty.

I went to the ABBA meet at Bristol this weekend and Caz from Willowbog did a days talk and demo on Shohin. They seem to be the new "Black" at the moment, and I must admit I am warming to these little trees very much.

It was good to meet you at Sheffield, finally.

Good luck with the cotoneaster

Best reagrds

Andy

Hi Ian, lovely little tree, I'd like to see the tree lowered somewhere halfway between the two pics. The second pic I think is a little low as I like a slight mound to accentuate the upward movement from rock to Bonsai. The berries look like ripe apples, nice one!
