Teenie Tiny

I had a bunch of new pot pics but this was the only one that fit the 640 pixel/70kb guideline. It's easy to stay under the 70kb but the 640 pixel limit really screws me up.

A tiny wheel-thrown shino glazed mame pot.

Cute pot Dale.

To fit a picture into the size limit, I use the computer program "Paint". It usually comes standard with Windows computers, and should be under your accessories. To resize the photo, look on the top toolbar and click "Image". Scroll down to "Stretch/Skew" and click on it. Resize the photo until you believe that it fits the posting guidelines. If it does not, just make it smaller.

Hope all of that makes sense.

BTW, I would be interested to see how to wheel throw something so small.

Charles,
I can easily fit my pictures into the guidelines using the pretty good program that came with my Sony . I actually like it better than others. But I must sacrifice size OR pixels so don't like the quality one way or the other usually.

It is harder to make a tiny pot ( for me) on a wheel than a larger one, takes about the same time.
It would be great if there were a good market for these because there's only a couple of cents in the finished product.....I could easily get about 500 of them in the kiln....and I could pack about 10,000 of them in the car and display them at shows!
but,
then again.....
There's all that wrapping them in paper!
:>)

I enjoy collecting pots of this size. Even though I rarely plan on planting something in them, they are nice for displays. Do you have any of them for sale?

Charles,
EVERYTHING I make is for sale! That's how I make a living :>)
The only thing I would show that isn't would be something I was contracted to make.
BTW, I will be vending at BSF Melbourne you know? :>)
Regards,
Dale

Yes, I know you will be there. I need some good grinding bits and also a few pots, so I will be sure to stop by your booth.

I reduced the size of your file threefold, from 55 to around 18K by using additional compression, and brightened it at the same time. Maybe your program doesn't give you enough control over JPEG quality? Some programs move in coarse steps rather than providing a quality slider. I did this using PaintShop Pro. You can download a 30-day evaluation at http://www.jasc.com The feature is very easy to use. After opening the file go to FILE->EXPORT->JPEG OPTIMIZER and move the slider until you're within limit.

Another hint: If you use an even colored or graduated background (any color, even black) the photos will compress more smoothly. The reticulated surface of the black tabletop you are using is particularly hard on the JPEG algorithm.

Good luck,

Matt

Thanks for the hints Matt.
I'm going to have to familiarize myself with the compression functions of my programs.
BTW, the small pot IS sitting on black cloth. I used micro focus for this tiny pot. I have a few colors of other cloths but never liked them as well as black.
