Question Smaller (Mame, Shohin) bonsai pots

I am wondering if anyone knows of any good sources - particularly online - for the smaller bonsai pots? (Even if they are not specifically described as Mame or Shohin pots...)

I guess I am more looking for ones that are, say, no more than 5" across/long...

Any recommendations for online sites would be appreciated. If you know of any good sources in Australia, I would also like to hear of them, as I might be able to visit during a trip home....

Alternatively, if any members have any tiny pots they no longer use and would like to get rid of, please let me know. We'd have to work out postage etc, but I'd more than willing to discuss....

Many thanks in advance.

You can post a free want ad in the pots area of http://www.bonsaiauctions.com site if you'd like.

One thing that was very surprising I found in Japan when seeing the potters and shohin is there isn't any real perceived cap on prices based on the size of the tree or pot. It wasn't unusual to see many of the shohin scale pots priced at $200 US, for example, or a $1200 juniper you could fit in the palm of your hand. Of course, many of these pots were handmade containers.

If you browse the pots section of this site you'll find a few potters who do custom work. I had the good fortune to buy some pots from Michael Hagedorn (Crataegus) at some of the GSBF sales in California. These were very well made and relatively inexpensive, but molded in some way.

We have many members from OZ, so maybe you'll get some locally informed responses!

Regards,

Matt

On my website ( http://bonsai.startkabel.nl ) I have about 37 links to bonsai potters. If you speak Japanese you could also visit http://www.k3.dion.ne.jp/~munakata/

Treebay, Levon - many thanks.

Great list of links there, Levon - appreciate your posting it. My Japanese is a bit rusty but surprisingly still enough to get around that site; will have a good look after work.

Cheers all...

I won these 4 excellent mame pots over at the bonsaisite.com mame competition by placing 3rd, it was sponsored by Harry Harrington of bonsai4me.com. They were created by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery, I was hoping to win this prize most of all, though other nice prizes were offered as well for 2nd and 1st place....see next post for 4th pot.

Most potters aren't going to call pots that are 5" long "Mame pots". They are going to be called shohin pots.
My wife made these mame pots.
Not molded.
Notice the quarter in first pic
