Great first round! I'll be looking forward to more pots. That wheel is frustrating, isn't it? That's why I gave it up and stuck with slabs and coils and pinch pots.

Keep showing us your progress.

Earl, Jose and Treenut... thanks for following my progress and the good thoughts! I am planning on staying with it! I like the feel and the fact that I will have my trees in my pots! I think my future is in hand built. The wheel is difficult and I do not know if it is worth the time. You can purchase beautiful round pots from others! OK part of this reason is because I can not do it well. I will keep trying the wheel from time to time.

I have four pots in the 'system' at the moment and have plans for a few more. I will be trying to make two rec pots of the same size and shape, to see if I can duplicate my efforts. I also plan on trying to make a larger size rec pot.

I will keep you posted as I go.... What do you think of the finish I have given these pots? My feel was for a natural look that was not overly noticeable!

update. 9-4-02. Last night went to open studio. I am working on a few pots at the moment. One a wheel thrown pot that got away from me and I saved.... looks a little(alot) off centered but will be interesting for a Literati.. it is being finished in a gloss blue/black glaze. The second is my one and only(wheel thrown) round pot, looks good, still greenware. Third a long rec pot, I think it is a bit out of scale, too long for its width and height.. I am learning. Last an oval slab built pot... this is my favorite at the moment... in a rough finish and I feel it is the best yet. The last three are all greenware at this time. It will be a bit till they are fired and I have a GSBS meeting next week, so I will not get back to them for a while.... stay tuned!

Glad to hear you are sticking with it. If we had an open class, I would sure go to it. As is, I'm going to pass for the Fall term because I want to build a wooden Kayak and don't have the time or energy or $ to do both.

Keep up the good work!

update... 9-17-02 Well I have been going to 'open studio' and I think I finally got it, the wheel that is. I have switched to a students wheel. Actually, it is three wheels in one cabinet. Three students can sit side by side and work. It is probably for young students. The wheel has two speeds via a switch... so its off slow and fast. Being I do not need to worry about the foot pedal I have been able to throw a few pots. One of the pots may not make it, I made the base too thin, but you never know! This is great fun and anyone who has the time and a place to learn should give it a try. I do not think that Sara Raynor has anything to worry about!!
When these are finished, I will gladly show them to all.... remember this is a community center, the kiln is fired when people are good and ready!! It may be awhile!
