Pots from the Stone Monkey

Here are a few pots that came out of the kiln on Tuesday. I was comissioned to make a Nan-Ban style pot for a customer so I made 4 which gives the customer a good selection.

As usual I made a few accent all about palm size.

The small ovals are 14cm x 12.5cm x 4cm

Dear Andy

The pot's look good !!!!
The clay structure of the ovals is nice ,
smooth and like stone , all in one glimps .

The accentpot on 37406 is strong
and with a wonderfull blue color !!!!!

Yes , it is so good to do the free work in clay.
It are my sweet explosions in my head as i call them.
I also love to work like that !!
Kind regards

Andy,
I see you've been at the wheel a bit. Nice bunjin/literati pots and shohin ovals. One suggestion I might make that I recently told another potter is that you normally don't have "feet" on that type of pot. It's history and style don't go with feet. Thy are usually flat, bowed or trimmed slightly with a "water escape" cut. Most of mine are made in the third method. Not that this is best, but Ithink the style looks better without feet.
Nice grass pots. They are sure taking off aren't they. I can just see folks benches full of pots of grass and flowers.
I see you moved to the black background for photos. I've tried a few other colors of background and keep going back to black.
I really like #'s 403 and 408
Regards,
Dale

P.S. BTW, as per our recent "Metric size" thread, I think I'm going to start sizing my pots in CM

Many thanks for the kind comments.

Poots

My ego is getting bigger, your going to have to stop the compliments. No seriously thats for the encouragement

Dale

I know what you mean about the feet I was in two minds of whether to put them on or not. The next ones I make will be footless
I do like doing the accent pots, I just get a ball of clay and make without thinking about it the end result.

regarding the background, I have tried various colours but black seems to yeild the best result, see your influence on me taking root

Oh and yes all mine are in cm now. Although I still refer to miles when travelling lol

reagrds to you all

Andy

The first few that look like they were made out of stone, look very interesting. Too small for my taste, but still very interesting.
