Hello out there and THANK YOU all great potters for the inspiration shared. I am completely new to bonsai and bonsai pottery, but nevertheless the bug bit me hard ! I have a number of collected trees and more to come. During this winter, to stop me from messing with my trees, I started making pots. I Live In an area where I am the only one with this obsession, and not a bonsai potter in sight. I decided to take matters in my own hands and now the pots a piling up. As I have never even seen a "real" bonsai pot, I would really appreciate your feedback on my work. The pots vary in size from 9 cm to 42 cm wide and 3 to 12 cm deep. I am currently working on a pot 70X43X7cm for a group planting.I mix my own glaces from what I learned from books and the internet. I make the pots mainly from looking at my trees and try to imagin what kind of pot it would look good in.
Well, here we go. I hope you will enjoy and that my upload will work. I will try 1 picture to start with and keep them coming if it works. |

Leica--I like your pots, they have a naive charm and are quite good for just starting out. Here are the ones I like best: #44690, 44695, 44697, 44702, 44703, 44705, 44711, 44714, 44715, 44720, 44722. I would almost be tempted to buy them, but I know nothing of what clay you are using (should be high-fire stoneware) what you are putting in in the way of drain holes and what you are providing for tying the tree in to the pot. Can you show me a shot of the bottom of the first pot you posted
Thanks for posting--Greg |

Pots
Hello Greg and thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately some of the pots are already sold, but some are not. The clay is high fired stoneware. I use 2 different types of clay. One with 0-0.2 grit chamotte and one with 0-1.5 grit.
I hope to use the coarser type in a wood fired kiln i am building. I enclose some pictures of the drainage holes. I will post more pictures later on. I have a new load of pots soon to be fired. I ordered a throwing wheel today,so there will be some throwing results here soon. |
