Talented people can make our hearts stop, no matter what material they use. Working with a lot of uber-talented sculptors you quickly realize that they either have it, or they don't. A millimeter of difference can take the ordinary into the extraordinary. The tilt of a head, the roundness of a shoulder, the tension in the tendons of the neck.... you can't teach that. And the artist could be using high-tech materials and the latest hydraulic dentist-drill supersonic tools, or simple clay and a handmade tool.

That's true in every aspect of our lives. Think of the graphic artist, the painter, the textile designer. Even a mom who bakes cookies, some cookies are delightful, balanced, artistic, and the very essence of cookie-ness. Others look like clown barf.

Not every day you get to work the word barf into a conversation.

I'm officially sorry I started this post to show a different technique.
I really hope the guy I worked on the pot for never sees it.
I'm done.....It's yours Joanie.

Dale, I didn't call your pot barfy! I called cookies made by unartistic bakers, barfy.

You said it was nicer in person, and perhaps the guy will be thrilled with it! Photography can do strange things. I only suggested that matte may have been better....

If you wanted to make it matte, I know a way. But it involves electricity.....

Dale,

What's with the halo?

Dale, I worked with Will Heath, I knew Will Heath, Will Heath was a friend of mine. Dale, you are no Will Heath.

Edit: A reference for the humor-impaired or too-young-to-get-it.

That's okay - Will Heath was no Will Heath either. And this is Joanie's thread now.

Is it mine? Can I take it on a walk and give it treats? And call it George?

It followed me home, I swear.....

Resurection

I hate to resurect this butchered thread but, I thought I owed you "The rest of the story" as Paul Harvey says:
These are some shots of the tree and pot that belong to my friend and helper Matt. He has worked on this arboricola for two seasons since I brought him the stock back from Florida. We chopped the dead middle out of it and split it open and stretched it out. It fit perfect in this too-narrow chinese pot. The tree was cut back to NO FOLIAGE and started over from scratch on foliage building.
As explained earlier in the thread I reglazed the perfect fitting chinese pot for him as a suprise present from his wife.

Here is the tree as it looked today in the pot. You can decide which side you like best for the front.

Also, the second reason I'm reposting to this thread is that I promised to show Wes ( Redpine) these arboricola leaves on Matts tree. I Have NEVER seen them smaller. He pinches continually and it is tight and tiny. Compare to the watch face in the picture.
OK tropical growers of arbs....heres your challenge for leaf size.
Regards,
Dale

Is that a Rolex?

Tell your friend it looks great Dale. That has got to be alot of constant work getting the foliage to harden off that small and uniform on a plant that size. Thanks for getting a pic out for me.
