Metal Wired Training Pots

I'm curious if I should avoid using pots that are made of any metal at all.

I've been looking at thick wire pots, more of a frame than a pot, to which I could apply screening (These I have found in any nursery etc.). I've also found a few options here and there of containers made of metal that already are made with metal screening on the sides of appropriate size (however these were not made specifically for potting necessarily).

Should I avoid certain types of metal? Avoid it all together?

For consideration as a Training Pot only. I'm not looking for bonsai pots.

I dont see why you would want to use metal pots when there are beautifull glazed and tokoname pots you can use. Plus MEtal pots can retain much heat in the right conditions can rot the roots. http://dallasbonsai.com/store/bonsai_pot_index.html

If your are using it just for training why not make a wooden training box. All my collected trees trained in wooden boxes, and when it comes to down sizing the pot you can just make a smaller one. When the tree starts getting to a good standard then consider your final Bonsai Pot.

The only thing I would look out for is rust damage. If these are nursery pots, then you should be ok. This will probably be like growing in a colander/pond basket and you can get AMAZING growth that way. Go for it and tell us how it turns out.

I have made some wooden frame boxes with metal screening as the sides, they work out fine. Too soon to know if I get explosive growth tho!
